Self defence starts before it starts

Most people don’t grow up learning how to stay safe.
They just assume nothing bad will ever happen to them — until something makes them stop and think.
This page is for people who:- are concerned about their own safety or someone they care about
- don’t want to spend years learning a martial art
- don’t know where to start with self defence
No experience needed.

Self defence isn’t just about learning to fight

A lot of people think self defence means:- learning lots of techniques
training for years
- getting punched in the face
In reality, most personal safety comes down to:- awareness
- decision-making
- understanding risk
- and avoiding the mistakes that get people hurt
I know this because I’ve made them all — so you don’t have to.That’s where self defence really begins

Where most people go wrong with self defence

Most people don’t get caught out because they’re weak or untrained. They get caught out because they misunderstand what danger actually looks like.It usually shows up as:- not being aware of what’s happening around them
- letting someone get too close
- assuming “it won’t happen to me”
- reacting too late, once the situation has already started
By the time they realise something is wrong, they’re already on the back foot.

This guide shares what I’ve learned after four decades of teaching and surviving
— to help you stay safer in the moments that matter most.

A simple guide to help you think more clearly

I’ve put together a short, practical guide called:20 Dangerous Mistakes People Make About Self-Defence

It’s written for people who:

✅have no background in martial arts

✅ want realistic advice, not bravado

✅ would rather avoid trouble than fight

It doesn’t teach techniques. It helps you think more clearly about safety.

The system that Eddie teaches is practical, principle based and easy to learn. It fittingly supported the Royal Marines close combat programme.
